Question 1

How long does a tankless water heater installation take in Chicago?

Accepted Answer

Water heater installation in Chicago runs three to five hours for a conversion, depending on installation complexity. The venting route is what moves it most: a short run to an outside wall sits at the low end, a long one at the high end. The old tank leaves with us the same day either way.

Question 2

Is an electric tankless water heater cheaper in Chicago?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes. HWHR installs both electric and gas tankless water heaters. An electric tankless unit costs less to buy and needs no venting or gas work. The catch is power: a whole home electric unit sized for a Chicago January draws 110 to 150 amps, and many older Chicago homes need a panel upgrade from an electrician first. Text a photo of your water heater and HWHR will price both options.

Question 3

What size tankless water heater does a Chicago home need?

Accepted Answer

Most homes here need a 199,000 BTU gas unit. Size is set by peak water usage, how many taps and showers run at once, not by square footage, and output in gallons per minute drops by about a third in winter. A unit sized on a national chart runs short in a Chicago January.

Question 4

Why does Home Depot quote less for a tankless water heater?

Accepted Answer

A retail quote prices the unit and a base labor rate, not the full tankless water heater installation cost. A tank to tankless conversion in Chicago also needs new venting, gas supply work at the unit, and removal of the old tank. That work is billed afterwards, subcontracted, or not quoted at all.

Question 5

Do tankless prices vary by Chicago neighborhood?

Accepted Answer

No. The price of a water heater in Chicago does not change by neighborhood, and HWHR charges the same across all 33 zip codes it serves. What moves the number is the building, never the address: the venting route, where the unit can hang, and what the gas supply at the unit can carry. A two flat and a bungalow can price differently on the same street.
